This was our first pregnancy and when my wife brought up the idea of a doula, 1. I had no idea what it was and 2. I thought it was pointless. But oh I was wrong! Jen went above and beyond for us. Any questions my wife or I had she always had a very educated answer and got us through everything. The amount of support and relief she brought us was beyond imaginable and I would recommend her 100 times over again! -Mike M.
Jen is woven seamlessly into the fabric of our birth story. With all the unknowns that come with a pregnancy, my partner and I knew that we wanted someone with not only a wealth of experience in the birthing process but equally or even more important was finding someone with a calming and supportive presence. Jen was that and more. Being induced meant that we were walking the line between intervention and encouraging my body to progress on its own. Jen was endlessly helpful in all the ways we could do so and I felt extremely empowered in that way. When it was clear that a C section was in order due to the positioning of the babe, Jen was by my side in the operating room with words of encouragement and even thought to take some pictures that I cherish more than words can say. When I think back on the whole experience I truly can’t imagine it any other way. She created an environment of calm, safety, love and empowerment. She was there to make sure all was well after the birth and she remains someone I would reach out to for advice and I’m beyond grateful for that. Labor doesn’t have to be full of fear and anxiety and I love that we can look back and feel like we were a part of the process and not just along for the ride. -Sarah B.
Jen attended my fifth birth in October. I’ve had four home births prior to this birth and thought everything would go the same way. As life goes, it did not. She was with me as we labored at home for 12 hours, using her words, presence, and touch to support me. I was transferred to the hospital and ended up needing an emergency c-section after a few hours laboring there. She came to the hospital with my midwife and advocated for me with the hospital staff, was a familiar face, and continued to give the support she had given at home, even though so much about my birth had changed. She was also a great support to my husband, who could no longer be the active birth partner he had been at home, due to the emergency circumstances. Throughout the entire process…which is life-changing each time you live it, she stayed…it means a lot to have a person you trust - who knows your hopes, fears, and expectations about birth with you throughout the process. She was also a great resource and support during our post-partum period. Birth is transformative and beautiful and hard, but bringing your baby home and learning to transition to a new normal is all of those things and more. I am grateful for her role in Lewis’s birth and all the moments surrounding that birth that left me different, and because of Jen, better. -Corinne F.
Having Jen present for the birth of our son was a blessing we didn't know we would need! I did all of the things to prepare for birth, but as I went through prodomal labor for days, and a very long labor and delivery, Jen was there to support me, encourage me, and help me emotionally and physically the entire time. Jen has a very calming and comforting demeaner, and always made me feel heard, and valued. She's very knowledgeable in all things birth and postpartum, and always made herself available to answer all of my questions. By the time our son was born, it didn't feel like we were just working with another care provider, but a friend. We can't recommend her enough! -Rachel K.
